Ok, so my EGR cooler is toast. I'm going to replace the cooler with one from bulletproof diesel as I believe the aftermarket is better. The question is, do I buy another stock oil cooler or go with the bulletproof diesel replacement for an additional $1800 (ouch) dollars? I know what I would do in a perfect world...but this isn't a perfect world. I will likely sell the truck in the next 50k miles.
I would likely stick with the OEM oil cooler. The aftermarket setup you describe looks like it requires extensive re-plumbing to install. Don't forget to change the screen under the oil cooler too. But I'm sure you knew that already by now.
I would like to have an auxilliary air cooler in series with the OEM engine coolant oil cooler like the tranny has. The tranny sends hot tranny fluid to the cooler in the radiator then to the air cooler then back to the tranny.
My '95 Suburban 6.5L TD had an air HX out in front of the AC condenser. I was going to buy the Chevy kit but need to get an oil cooler base (minus the HX and fuel filter) and see where I can tap in to feed an auxilliary air HX. I don't want to eliminate the OEM cooler like the Bulletproof cooler does.
