Are all E4OD's the same??
I found one with 89k on it from a 96 F350 on CL.
Will it bolt up to my 94 5.8 Econoline?
Will I need a application specific TC?

If the E4Od is from a small block it will bolt up. If it is from a big block or a diesel it will not bolt up. If it is from a 4x4 it will not bolt up.
The torque converter is application specific.

There are 4 different converters for the E4OD. The difference between them is damper spring rate, converter stall speed, and mounting type.
Ford uses a letter code (stamped on the converter lid) to identify the differences.
Type 1
Letter Codes: A,B,G,L,N,O, T, and U
Engine: 4.9L and 7.5L Gas
Stall Speed: LOW
Mounting Type: 4 Studs
Description: 13" dia. w/ 1.375" pilot with converter clutch
Type 2
Letter Codes: E, F, M
Engine: 5.0L and 5.8L Gas
Stall Speed: High
Mounting Type: 4 Studs
Description: 13" dia. w/ 1.375" pilot and converter clutch
Type 3
Letter Codes: C,J,K,R
Engine: 7.3L Diesel
Stall Speed: Low
Mounting Type: 4 Studs with re-inforced welds that are longer in length
Description: 13" dia. w/ 1.375 pilot and converter clutch
Type 4
Letter Codes: I.D. by use of 6 mounting studs used in 1996 and up.
Engine: 7.3L Diesel
Stall Speed: Low
Mounting Type: 6 studs with re-inforced welds that are longer in length.
Description: 13" dia. with 1.375" pilot and uses a double-sided converter clutch."

I hope so.
I haven't found too many honest deals on craigslist. I get burned half the time.
