My son bought a 86 F-150 with a 302 with a broken crank. The truck came with a 302 out of a 86 mustang. The mustang engine is a high output. Someone has told him he will have to change the cam to get it to run right. Has anyone heard of this?
well if it came with a second engine you have more than enough parts to rebuild one or the other. i'd take the extra engine down to the shortblock and freshen things up then install it
If it's a high output engine no need to change the cam, just makesure you use the correct firing order, it's not the standard 15426378 but the other one. Don't worry about high RPM pwer vs low end torque... Stock motors in any Ford are low RPM deals and will be fine. If you want more power build a 460, for light duty getting around and such a 302 will be fine but won't get you there in a hurry.
that's true i got a 302 in my 84 f150 but i swapping in a 351w just in case i need to tow something later down the road. plus the 302 has bad blowby & the valve seal are gone
