Ball joint help

Hello, I have a 1994 turbo idi and my ball joints are pretty trashed at 195,000 miles. Does any one have a walkthrough for changing them out? It looks like quite a bit of work. Any tips or pictures are appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks! I have searched and not found anything for the older trucks or the 4wd trucks. Please let me know if you find it.

hello firebird, i just did my ball joints about two weeks ago. It was my first time on this type of truck and it was not to bad. first you need to find out if you have the dana 44 or dana 50 axle since you have a f-250. if you have the dana 50 you need the bigger heavier ball joints, at least for the lowers. start by getting jack stands under the front axle and removing the tire. For beginners i would do one side at a time so you can refer to the other if need be. push the pins that hold the caliber on and remove the caliber. i was able to rest mine on the leaf spring and not stress the brake cable. take the six allen screw out of the hub and remove that. In side there will be two snap rings. you will need snap ring pliers for the smaller and the other one is on the outside of the housing. you can pry it out with a flathead screw driver. next you will need an axle nut socket which is a specialty tool. i just bought one for $12. it is a four prong socket that is 2.6in wide(if i remember right) remove that. behind that is a large washer that is aligned with a key on top of the axle. that will just slid out. now the hub will slid off. be carefull the bearing is still inside and could fall out in the dirt. with the hub out the axle shaft should slide out. From here remove the castle nuts on the ball joints. I used a pickle fork between the upper ball joint and the steering knuckle and beat on it until the steering knuckle dropper. from here you need a ball joint press press to remove the old and install the new.. then just reverse the steps for installation of the new. If i missed something i am sure that someone smarter will correct me, just stay tuned for updates.

i have the dana 60, am i right in thinking that the process is the same? also as for the ball joint press, can one use a heavy duty vice or is it necessary to use the a press?

thanks...
