351m to 429
i might have another option though. a friend has a 68 thunderbird with a 429 in it. it's suppose to be in really good shape. i was thinking of swaping the motor and tranny.
can i make this swap without a lot engineering?
i don't know about the different motor families, even though i've read about them a dozon times. i think either a 428 or the 429 should swap.
thanks for your help!
i am happy with my 351 for now and am going to keep it in my truck while i build the 429. my exhaust system turns some heads. if your looking for an awesome sounding system go with straight pipes,h pipe and 18 inch long x 3 and a half inch diameter tips. it earned the name import killer. write back with results on the search.
good luck

The 351M, while a good motor, is basically a dog. You can build the crap out of it and it might keep up with a stock 429/460. As far as fuel economy, you're not gonna get any mileage out of either one, so I'd drop the 429 in and forget about wasting money on the M. Just my .02.
BTW, the 428 is the biggest member of the "FE" engine family and is getting very hard to find. The 429 is a "385" engine and is almost identical to a 460.

I have done the very thing you are asking about in my 78 150 2wd the engine and tranny are from a 68 t-bird not that tough
