I'm in the same boat except I wanted an overdrive.
I don't want a Gear Vendors either.
If they changed the design so that it would handle deceloration loads while engaged then I would get one.
But not until then.

I need the 4x4 that the us gear unit offers. There's several other reasons I'd prefer of as well.
The Todd in you're signature wouldn't happen to be Todd Ivan's, would it? RIP.
O.K...I have to ask.What are ya'll talking about here.Thanks
the easyist was to describe it is they are looking for an additional transmission that will allow in the Op's case an under drive gear ratio going in to his transmission. This would allow him a selectable overall lower gear ratio at the transfer output,
Kwik is looking for the exact opposite and would like a selectable overall higher/taller gear ratio to offset his low geared rear end
If you have ever seen a 2 speed rear end they are looking for the same desired result.
With the 4R100s you really need about a 25% underdrive also if you want to backup with a load in a 2WD truck
I think ideal with 4.10 gears would be 25% underdrive and 20% overdrive

No, not Todd Ivan.
My little brother, Todd Richardson, RIP.
This picture was taken Christmas morning 1977 by my room mate at the time.
Left to right Todd, Brian, and I.
I'm the oldest then Brian, then Todd.
Todd passed around 16 years ago as of this writing.
Having the driveline shortened tommorow, have a few more wiring bits to finish tonight. Pick up some GM gear lube (blech!) and hopefully driving by wednesday!
Also installing the F650 dash, new trailer brake controller, a Terminator OBDII gauge, rear airbags, thomas compressor, air tank and gauge, and a train horn. Now that I listed all that stuff maybe I won't be driving wednesday. Hopefully by the weekend anyways.
I have a Klune-V in my Jeep, but I don't know if they have adapters for our trucks. The reduction is 4 to 1, but they make other options as well. I had not seen this thread earlier, or I would have chimed in.
I checked out Klune-V, don't believe they do anything similar to this. IIRC most of there stuff was the extreme underdrive like yours and mostly catering to older platforms.
It was expensive, I hope it does the job I intend. Unfortunatly, I really couldn't find anything else that would function as a splitter. At least GV gets mostly good reviews and is supposedly strong. I hate not having the ability to use it in 4x, but I don't tow in winter much anymore so hopefully I won't miss it.
EDIT: oh yeah... Advanced Adapters Atlas II T-case in my jeep
Well, back from the first big trip last weekend. 23k# GCVW, still got about 10 mpg. Have had a few issues/teething pains. Got it working how I like it, but anyone interested should PM/email me to sort out details.
3rd-over is so close to stock 4th(od) that it's hardly worth using. 100-200 rpm lower than OD.
1st doesn't really go fast enough to use 1st-over, and 2nd has plenty of tq so 1st-over isn't neccesary.
2nd-over is where it's at. If your pulling hills steep enough to get you below 45mph, or traffic/corners dictate 35-60 mph, engage GV and drop into 2nd. It's magical! Hills I used to top @ 40-45mph @ 3krpm I can now crest @ 50-55mph and 2600-2800 rpm. My EGT's were generally lower across the board. At the same time I removed the 'tool shelf' from the top of the radiatior. Some reitteration of the zoo-dad mod, I don't remember which. Supposed to affect egt's, I think it did.
I was beside another f350 on a hill, he was pulling a 28-ish tag trailer. I was holding @ 1150 & 55 mph in 2nd-over w/ a heavy 38' goose. No smoke on jody's 80hp tow tune. To pass before the top of the hill the 'other' guy was belching smoke and his truck was screaming. I'd like to think his egt's were scary, but I know nothing about his truck.
Anyways... it's pretty cool, but seeing as it only helped me in 2nd, I'd consider bigger injectors first if I ever did it again. Maybe it would help the MT guys more.
