Adjust wiper/washer delay
There is a "feature" in my 98 Expy that has bothered me since day 1, and really gets on my nerves at this time of year.
Driving along here in MA, it is normal for the windshield to quickly become covered with a coating of sand/salt as the snow melts and the cars in front fling up the debris. No problem. Just use the windshield washer. Except there is a problem. The Ford engineers in their infinite wisdom decided that it makes sense to have the wipers engage first, resulting in a swipe or 2 across the windshield before any washer liquid has been deposited. The resulting scraping of the wipers across the sand-ladden windshield is like fingernails on a chalkboard, not to mention the damage it must be doing to the glass and wipers.
Does anyone know of a way to delay the wipers from engaging until there is enough washer fluid on the glass? I'd even be happy to have the washer switch only start the washer fluid pump and engage the wipers manually myself!
Thanks
#1 find the wire in the Power Dist. Relay Box
#2 find place to install switch
#3 run a wire #18 guage from a ground point to the switch
#4 run a wire #18 gua. from the tan/red to the other side of the switch, use a blue scotch lock, soldering it in would be better.
#5 mount the switch
#6 try it out, the key must be in the run position or acc.
#7 by the diagram it should work, I have not done this myself, so your on your own from here.
