I have a 1966 352 V8. It has been smoking out the tailpipe quite a bit. A few days it stopped smoking after I put oil in it. The next day I found I had left the oil filler cap off. When I put the cap back on the smoking started again. If I take the cap off the smoking stops. Is there a vent somewhere that's plugged up and causing this? I know there's not a pcv on it but could this be the cause of the smoking?
Make sure you are using a vented filler cap . If the engine is not vented the "blow by" will cause too much pressure that it will cause the engine to smoke ...so I would say that if the engine smokes when that cap is off then you need to get another one

I understand what he said ..he said it smokes when the cap in ON not off I ran into this same problem with a 300 I 6
He also says there is not pcv ... I would sau\y that the filter material in the cap ( depending on the type of cap) may be plugged up. What does your cap look like?

My cap doesn't have any vents. It is solid with two metal washers to make it airtight. I don't know if it is original to the engine. Where would I get a vented cap?
