I did some searching and I can't find the answer, or I overlooked it, if I overlooked I apologize. In any event, I have a 2000 Expedition EB, with the 5.4L engine. Big Bertha, as I call her, has been shooting code P1285 out at me and I am systematically changing all the possible things. The only left is the CHT sensor, but I can’t seem to find it. Was wondering if anyone could help me out and tell me.<o

did you think of the possibility of it actually overheating? possible head gaskets?

Hey guys...sorry for the slow reply, got busy doing house work over weekend.

@Dan: Thanks for the location.

@Gevans: The guy i bought it from changed it last year, but I'm going to change it again in the next day or so.

So here is the scoop...its not over heating per say. But when i say over heating, I'm thinking old school overheating where the truck is smoking and anti-freeze is spewing all over the place. The 1st time this happens it went into limp mode and it did release some fluid, but it sorta looked like it was trying to release some pressure. The second time I got the notification on the dashboard, the needles showed It was overheating and high oil pressure, but she never released any fluids that time. So I looked here on the forum and supposedly if you cold start the truck, been sitting like overnight or a long enough time where it cooled down completely, if you wait 2 mins and squeeze the top radiator hose if it can be squeezed it’s not the heads, if it pressurizes and you can’t squeeze than it would be a bad head gasket. I can squeeze the hose during the 1st 2-3 mins.

Not sure if this make any sense…but I’m trying to eliminate my options one at a time. Changed the plugs, changed the coils and now its time for the thermostat and the CHT sensor. If anyone has any other suggestions I’m more than willing to listen and try them out as well.

top off your coolant then drive it and keep a close look at your coolant level after it has cooled back down also check if your heater still works you could be getting an air pocket in there from head gaskets or other leak, wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a coolant pressure tester and see if it holds pressure
