Ok I am going to be doing the d60 swap in my f250 and was wondering what you guys think I should do. the axle I am buying comes with everything brakes, hubs, steering linkage, gear box (even though I dnt need it), track bar and mounting plate, drive shaft and the f350 leaf springs attached. Now do I use the 350 springs or use mine? I've heard the 350 springs ride a lot stiffer. Just looking for some opinions what you guys would do and why?
The stiff 350 springs you are hearing about, are the rear ones. The front ones do tend to be a bit softer. I would definately use the TTB springs, for better flexing!
hmmm, midwest, always coming with a great idea! To add to that, have them re-arced maybe? Take them up so they sit more like a conventional leaf spring so you can get a little more travel out of them and still have the flexibility benefits! Can't see really where that would be a horrible idea, midwest? any thoughts on that one?
You know, when it comes to those rear ones on the 350's, I wouldnt waste time with them. Most here are interested in the rugged dependability for off road capabilities, and the 350 rears are so stiff, any addition to them or moddifying, wouldnt give enough of an advantage to be worth it. Ride would still be aggravating. Those rear springs were really meant to be used for loads.
As for those fronts.. I would definately be for the reverse shackle modd on the front! I know many here do it, and for some valuable reasons, such as axle flex, and bump travel or torsion. I think it came down to Ford making an error with their orignal shackle set-up. Everything from bushings to broken shackles came from the axles inability to travel when struck while the vehicle is moving forward.
As for the height of those F-250 front springs, a person could re-arch them, but what I discovered in my swap, was that now I have to lift the rear end of my truck! Even with a PS thrown in, I used F-250 springs up front, and it rides higher in the front now then the rear! Now you use those 250 springs, and not happy with level or hight, try the shackle reverse, and last resort, go ahead and arch them. Finding a place that will do it, and cost effectively may be a challenge. My two cents worth!
Thanks for all the good info I am looking to have my truck sit level without having to mess with the rear because I have the air bags. Now do you think it would be too hgh in the front with the 350 springs? Or am I better off just doing a RSK? If so where do I get it? Another rumor I heard was 350 gas springs were weaker than the ones put in with the powerstroke? Didn't know if anyone heard of that
that might be true because i believe the diesel is notably heavier... you're going to lift the front end putting the solid axle in there unless you use the 250 springs. the 350 springs sit flat where as the 250 springs are negatives, so the front of the truck will sit higher with the 350's... 2" i believe. You are going to be better off doing an RSK from what I hear it really helps the ride out. I need to get a welder so I can build myself one, but you can order them from Sky manufacturing 92-97 F-250/F-350 front shackle reversal - Sky's Off-road Design and a few other companies who's names allude me at this moment...
