decking the heads?

pulled the heads off and took them to the machine shop had them checked and one has .003 and the other .004 of warpage. A ford tech told me to NOT to have them decked just to reinstall them like that i dont want to have to do the work all over again. so my question is can they be decked without having piston to valve clearance problems??? or what do you guys recommend?

I know what the Ford spec is and I know what will blow again. I've seen them blow at .002, so I would have them decked, no more than .008 and you'll be fine.

The old spec was cut to .004. There have been reports of guys cutting to .008. Mine were cut 004 and worked fine. You will be fine at .004.

The old spec was warpage allowed to .004. Ford says not to cut anything off the heads but to replace with new. You can cut .008 and be fine. Any more and you might get a little valve to piston contact. Ask me how I know--LOL

What is his reason for not decking them? Because Ford says not to?? Ford isn't always right. IMHO you have too much warpage to NOT deck them. My first set of head gaskets I had one head replaced with .0045 and one not replaced at .004 and guess what?? Truck didn't make 5 months before it started puking again.

Aren't you glad you took them to at least have them checked now?? In the case of heads, especially finicky, ones it's worth a little extra $$ to have them gone through. I know it's not good news, but better than going through all that only to have the repair fail in your face and have to go through it again.

I checked clearwater cylinder head where I got mine for $400 each. No luck and not even listed on their website anymore.
