I've recently acquired a 1979 F150 Ranger XLT 4x4 SuperCab it's in amazing condition and for a truck that's 31 years old, excellent mileage. As always I wanted to lift said truck but to my amazement the supposed coils that should be up the front aren't there but instead a fairly substantial dana diff and some HD looking leaf springs. It has a 155 in wheelbase too...............the VIN matches with a '79 F150......................is this some form of monster, the fabled "trailer special" or a F250 gone horribly askew?!?
it also has factory fittings on the cab for a camper and a similar (but not the same fitting) in the rear bumper for a trailer......
It has 5 stud wheels.............
might email lift companies and ask if they have any more info.........
it also has factory fittings on the cab for a camper and a similar (but not the same fitting) in the rear bumper for a trailer. Aftermarket, not genuine Ford.
Camper & Trailer Special's came from the factory with a multi-pigtailed wiring harness/plug. It was placed inside the glove box at final assembly.
This harness plugged into a separate plug that was part of the specific Camper or Trailer Special taillamp wiring harness.
Since there were no codes within the VIN, or on the Warranty Plate denoting a Camper or Trailer Special, the only way you can tell if the truck is one of these is by the specific taillamp harness.
