penetrating oil would be a good idea. help lube it and give it a little help to shoot out. id suggest a heavy blanket or a towel folded up over the hole, just enough to stop that projectile from blowing a huge dent in your hood or hitting you. im curious if filling the cylinder with atf, wmo or water would help. being thicker then the air it might give it some extra boost when pushing that thing out.
that might help, but i dont think I would risk it. Might bend a rod......
I wouldn't put fluid of any sort in there, if it can't 'flow' fast enough you have just locked that piston. If the others fire, it could cause some serious damage!!

just cranking you wont bend a rod, belive me.... ive done it 2500 times in the last month since my cylinder got the hole and started hydroclocking. piston gets compressed and stops. when relieved or a pressure escape it spins and pushes though.

If the piston thats filling with water is on it's way down when you goto start the truck, and it fires off before that piston hydro locks you will destroy your motor when it does, it's just a matter of time.
If I was you, I would be pulling that GP before each start to blow the water out first with the FSS disconnected.

i have to. after the piston stops then i gotta pull the plug. but im over it, im burning 8 gallons of water in the matter of under 100 miles. when i get back in town im going to pull it, then stick my 93 idi in there til my 6.9 gets done.
This is really good news that It will hopefully pop out. I am soaking it today then tomorrow I will get it running and report the results. I was really dreading haveing to maybe pull the heads...I miss driving this pickup too!!The powerstroke is comfy but I love this old crew cab.
8 gals of water for every 100 miles ... Holy cow!
Sure do hope you're running pure water else that could get expensive quick!
Are you on the road with this truck trying to nurse it home???
Good lord I hope not, That would be a trip from ....!
But been there done that kinda thing more than once!

straight water. i have been driving it still, i dont go every day. just once a week or so. when i get back from being out of town im gonna rip the whole front end apart, then throw in my spare turbo 7.3 engine til i get my 6.9 ready.
Ok so I soaked it with WD40 and started it an let it warm up to operating temp, nothing happened. The tip is still stuck where it was ...Maybe I should soak it in carb/choke cleaner or brake cleaner? I hope this works....
Yup ... It's stuck pretty good. Anything that will loosen carbon will help.
It will come out sooner or later, put it all together and carry the new glow plug (and tools) with you and go for a ride, put it to work, next thing you'll know you'll be messing your pants cause the noise it'll make when it comes out.
IIRC there was someone on here that was in a similar position and it took a few days of driving before it finally popped out.
Your next move could be to TDC that cylinder, pull the injector and carefully drive it through, apply vacuum to injector hole and air hose to the GP hole and hope the vacuum sucks it out the injector hole.
I would run it as is quite a bit before I did that!
I can tell you this, I would rather be in your shoes than my own, my tips broke while running, don't know how much damage occurred yet, all I know so far is it's a knocking hard, I think the tip is smashed between the piston and head. All do to my own stupidity!
Sorry to hear about that festus. Yeah I think I am going to run it for awhile and hope it pops out. I am guessing I should rig up some kind of blocker for if and when it does come out. If I pull the injector I can actually gain access to the GP enought to push it out?
