GMC CCKW the WWII 6x6 used this kind of setup where the transfer case drove all three axles. The transfer case is monstrous though. If you were going to tandem a pickup with a transfer case you would have to get one that's full time four wheel drive. For a tandem you need 3 differentials. One in each axle, and one between the axles, usually called a power divider. Other wise you would never be able to run on hard pavement without shredding the truck.
What I'm waiting for someone to do is to mount a four wheel drive front axle on the rear for homemade 4 wheel steering.
