does anyone know if the y blocks ever came with auto trans in trucks. i imagine that cars had them but i dont ever remember seeing one in a truck. please forgive me, my trucks are older than me.
Yes, the Ford-o-Matic was an option in light trucks behind 6 cylinders and Y-block V-8's. I believe the first year available was 1953, but don't hold me to that. Ford was so proud of that, they put an emblem right on the front of the hood to tell the world. ;-)

Ford-O-Matic introduced 1953, optional in F100/350's with I-6's and 239 Flathead V8.
Y block applications:
Ford-O-Matic: 1954/58 F100/350, some 1959/60 F100/350's, as it depended on the application.
Cruise-O-Matic: Some 1959/60 F100/350's, as it depended on the application. All 1961/64 F100/350's.
hey bill , not too hijack this thread , but is the fkywheel for a 292 the sane as a flatties ? i got a good one , and it looks very simialar to the one on my flathead , and the clutch and pressure plate are the same . was thinking about having it resurfaced and use it if needed and it fits . it's off a 58 292 that was in a 52 truck .

The following are the F100/350 applications.
The same flywheels were used in Passenger Cars, but since I didn't look, I dunno if all years they were used match the trucks. Some cars with F/M used a different flywheel than listed below.
i doubt it would last ........ not a fan of the ford version of the 'glide . the ones i have had even freshened { last one ina 62 fairlane more door w/ a six cylinder }gave new meaning to the words , SLIP O MATIC !!!!!!!!!!!

You know what we oldtimers used to say: "Slip and slide...with Power-Glide."
'Course it's better than Clunk-O-Matic aka Fluid-Matic aka Tip-Toe Matic aka Hy-Drive aka Fluid Drive used in ChryCo products.
btw: There were two versions of Ford-O-Matic, 2 speed and 3 speed. The 3 speed version was the basis for Cruise-O-Matic.

I LIKE IT! if anyone has one of those "Fordomatic" emblems, let me know!
One year (I am not sure which without looking in my books) I think it was 53 had the Fordomatic emblem on the grille.
I just ran upstairs and looked in my Body, Trim, and sealant manual for 1953. The Fordamatic emblem (and the overdrive emblem) were mounted on the top bar of the grille above the V8 or 3 pointed star for the 6 cylinders.
Trivia question: Why did Ford go from a 3 pointed star in 53 to a 4 pointed star in 54? Post your answers here and I will let you know the right answer later.
