My 2003 Expedition has 114K miles. The last two weeks it has started to stumble and pull back when accelerating betwwen 20-55 MPH. Once it hits the cruise speed it's smooth. Idles like a new one. It's NOT throwing any codes. I have replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor. I have not changed the plugs as to be honest I don't want to either face broken plugs in head or spitting them out after I change them. Any other ideas? Without codes I am lost as to where to look next.
I am having the same problem. Except eventually I got the error code PO300...or something like that...multiple mis-fires on multiple cylinders. Of course my wife read that error code as "trade-in for new truck".
We cleared the codes and I tried a can of Sea Foam hoping that would clear the problem, but sadly it did not. The CEL hasn't come back on but the truck is still running like crap in low MPH. So now I bought new plugs and just the boots and coils...hoping that will fix the problem.
Is there anything else to check? (Fuel filter is less than a year old.)
At 114K you're 14K overdue on the plugs. If the plugs are indeed the problem, then nothing else you do is going to solve anything.
I agree but i am behind on several maintenance items (transmission, brake fluid, coolant, etc.) and they wouldn't affect this. Changing plugs and /or COP is the last choice. If anything else can cause this then I am all ears..why twist off plugs unless it is the LAST option. How many have had fouled/defective plugs that didn't cause a misfire code????
