I have a 09 scab, max tow pkg.Added LT tires on the rear and a set of Firestone airbags.I towed my 9500lb fifthwheel from Rochester to Lake Placid aprox. 280 miles each way. Truck got 10mpg. Then we went from Rochester to Virginia without the trailer aprox 360 miles each way. Truck got 18.7 on the way there,a/c off, avg. speed 70mph. On the way home a/c on at 70mph 18mpg.Very happy with both mpg
You should be very happy with the mileage. I've towed everything with everything for the last 40 years and if when you get double digit mileage towing anything that large, you are doing great. The fifth wheel also catches a lot of air.
I agree with Osbork...10 MPG pulling that weight is very good. I suspect you were traveling at a reasonably low speed. I get about 10 MPG pulling 4,000 pounds at 70 MPH on the innerstates so I think you are doing very good.
With the trailer first 157miles no steep inclines. all highway at 65mph.filled up and got 10mpg took 15.5 gallons. Next 138 miles a lot of hills and steep grades from Watertown to Lake Placid mostly 55-60 mph, filled up and put in 13.7 gallons. On the way back I got 9.9 on the hills, I pushed it a little harder up the hills. On the highway part I kept it between 60-65mph and got 10.2 mpg. Before this truck I had a 05 screw with max. tow package with a 8500lb. fifth wheel trailer. I ave. between 10-11mpg on trips. I guess the 1000lbs.makes a difference.
I only get 16 hwy with 3k miles on truck going 73mph. and get 8.5 towing 7k at 65mph. I hope mine will climb to those numbers. I do have BFG at's and that might rob some but they are the stock size.
