Hey my name is Russell Batista. I live in lincoln,Nebraska. I have a 1971 F100. When I bought it the truck had a 302 in it. I was wondering what I could put in it to amp up some horse and mke it a meaner truck. It has a c4 tranny. Its real old fashion with the tanned wood flat bed,I want to turn it into a show kinda truck...and details on what I should do>?
The quick answer.
Bigger motor and tranny.
FE 360 and FE 390 were factory options (standard on some of the 67-72's)
Some people drop in a 351 or 460.
Personaly I would not go any biger than a 302 with the C4 tranny.
The only engines you're going to be able to mate to that C4 that will be any bigger are either a 351W or 351C. If you want to drop something like a 460 in there, it's certainly doable, you just need to get a 460 with a C6 tranny.
What do you think your budget is going to be on this? If you do a low-budget swap, you'll have to do some junkyard/craigslist scrounging and really keep a good eye out for some hot deals (they are out there, you just have to look for them.)
