2006 engaging problem
My brother-in-law owns a 2006 Explorer. Recently it started to act up. When going down the road it feels like the passenger side front wheel engages and then disengages. When it does this the vehicle pulls slightly toward the ditch side(left when driving) of the road. It is four wheel drive and has some sort of traction mode. I can feel this engaging and disengaging when I drive it and have narrowed it down to either the passenger side front hub or something in the differential. Do these models engage at the hub electronically or pneumatically? Has anyone had any experiences like this in an Explorer? Please give some suggestions!!!

You might suggest to your BIL that he purchase a subscription to Alldata for his Explorer. I have the factory service manual for the 2002 model year but other things in the drivetrain have changed since 02 so I'm reluctant to make any suggestions based of that older information.
Does the ABS light ever come one while he's driving the Explorer? Have you or someone inspected the front end for any signs of looseness or wear?

I just experienced the same (or at least very similar) problem in my 2002 F350 7.3...at 75mph it felt like i had blown a tire. When I got it up on a jack the driver side axle turned with the wheel. After rotating the wheel in both direction a couple of times it disengaged.
