I about dropped to the floor on Monday. I went to the DMV to Title transfer my sons 79 Camaro that we just picked up. The plates had to be changed out as well because they were faded so badly. The total cost to title transfer, register and switch the plates came to $191.00.
People we need to start a petition to get the price of our tabs and fees reduced. Oregon is out of control, when you have to pay that much to drive a 1979 Camaro on the road. When I was stationed up in Washington state some guy started a petition to do the same because they were getting hosed by an excise tax. I mean please what are people that are barely making it doing to get a vehicle? We pay no sales tax on a purchase but now they get you this way? The they add a fuel tax on top, to make matters worse.
It's still cheaper here than in most places, but they have been cranking on the prices a lot lately.
I have an old Honda that my kid left here a year ago that I need to get on the road. The DMV guy quoted me $197 for title transfer, registration and plates.
I found out the other day that when you renew your license, they get you an extra $28 if you have a motorcycle endorsement now.
And speaking of petitions, that reminds me. Seems like I signed one here a month or so ago that had to do with licensing fees. I'll have to try to google it.
I don't like high prices any more than the rest of you, but how about some accountability in spending and wages. If any business in the private sector was run in the same maner it would be bankrupt in a month. (allowing for weekends and holidays)
Ok now that we're both down off our stumps, lets go get coffee. OBCB- Jeff
Yeah and they just raised the rates on our God given right to hunt. It ticks me off to no end that a Californian can come up to Oregon hunt with a bow tag and not have to be in a draw of any kind.
Our Polish governor believes the best way to "stimulate" the states economy during this recession is to increase taxes and fees across the board............Lord knows us average Joe's are doing SO much better than we were 3 years ago......we can afford it!,......... at least according to him.
I guess our "leaders" in Salem are taking lessons from that beacon of fiscal competence to the south of us.
The Government want's to be held harmless so they just reach in to our pockets instead.
They forget or don't care about who they work for.
They also believe we have $100 bills FALLING out of our pockets.................I know that due in part to their policies put into place, my standard of living has dropped considerably in 3 yrs.........No thanks, Salem.
It's a big stump and we are all on it together(only good thing about it), but I think we are in the wrong part of the forum to continue this thread. How about it Moderator, move us or let us vent? OBCB
I asked Adrian about this once before, and he told me LOCAL (state and city) politics are fair game in the State Chapters. Soooo......... RANT ON!
I am not happy about the additional taxes and increased fees, BUT, at least Oregon has a law requiring a balanced budget. Kalifornia doesn't, and is 50 BILLION in the hole just this year.........
I'd sure like to know where the blasted money is going. The ONLY thing keeping our school open is the additional money from about 10 foreign students who pay tuition to come to school here. Our roads are falling apart.
They did build a "cattle underpass" just south of town last year, so the rancher didn't have to move his cows ACROSS the road, he could move them under the road. And the put a new bridge in up out of Lakeview.
But for the most part, they're raising taxes and fee's through the roof, while cutting every service they can past the bone as fast as they can.
