On the 63 uni I just picked up has some messed up hood hinges and the mounting area where they mount is all screwed up also. The bolt holes are cross threaded and one is missing the threaded insert. Just wondering what people have done to fix the threaded part of the cab. I found good hinges at the junk yard.
if you look at the hood hinge itself...look at one thats off...the lower bolt that goes side to side as installed has a D nut in it...This is the IDENTICAL ones used in the cab...pay attention though as ive seen fine thread as well as coarse thread hood hinge to cowl nuts and bolts used...most use the coarse though in my experience.
To replace them...if its the right side I posted a reply to another last year or so with this identical problem...if you...or your son, nephew, etc has smallish hands and good with working in blind areas then its a fairly easy thing to get to...you just gotta take a few things out to get to it is all as its on the inside of the cowling. These nuts were popped into the cowl tin after it was stamped originally...given it was new, I doubt it was even tacked in place originally...
Ive personally done the right side before...more stuff to deal with there as far as removing too...floor vent and round plastic boot connector(with delux heater) or the round block off plate. I believe its a 5/8" wrench you need to get on the nut..it fits great on the nut.
All I would do is if there multiple nuts or mangled sheetmetal try to hammer them into a shape resembling a round hole to recieve the nut and tack weld it/them in place. I would do them one at a time and put the hinge in place and check to be sure the other bolts all line up as they should. The tab on the cab should be flush and flat against the area on the bottom of the hinge it mates to.
If you wanna look at the nut w/o going out and looking at yours, check out my gallery in misc stuff as I have a pic of this D nut in there...
