Hood Hinge bolts

So I got the box mounted on the frame tonight and the hood on my 52.I got new bolts for the side hinges that thread into the hood. The hinge arm slides over a post that has the threads inside that are on the inside of the hood. The new bolts also have a shoulder that the hinge arm will slide over. With the new bolt and the post on the hood the arm now has about 3/8'' to move around. The bolts came with a spring washer I am assuming to hold the arm against hood but there is no way it will tighten up with that shoulder on the new bolt. The LMC catalouge show that I have the right bolts. But do I or do I need to add some washers?

I came across the same problem on my 49. Two of the posts inside the hood were worn paper thin though so I ended up grinding all 4 flush and drilling them out. I then machined some billet pieces to weld in that protrude the same distance from the hood side but a greater diameter so the hinges can't slide over it, they ride only on the bolt. I'll let you know if it works when I install it.

I took off my hood the other day, and was surprised. I thought it had the shoulder bolts, too. But they are plain old 1/4" bolts, there is the tube as described. I think there must be two styles, you have EITHER the shoulder bolts OR the tube.

I agree with Ross. When I got my truck, it was disassembled. I put the hood on with regular 1/4"-28 bolts over the shoulders and it fit and functioned well.

I wouldn't trust ANYTHING that LMC's catalog claims, as it's rife with errors and omissions.

30347-S8 .. Bolt-Hood Hinge to Dash Panel / 5/16" -24 x 3/4" long.
