Fog Light mod gone wrong

I recently purchased my 2003 F250 and the fog lights have not worked since the day I bought them. I started back tracking the wires back to the fuse box and found that the wire had been cut at the fuse box. My problem is the brass connector in the fuse box is missing. I have tried several used parts store around and they will not sell me just the one connector. They want me to buy the whole wiring harness. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could get the connector? Thanks Clayton

Have you checked your dealer?

That should be an upfitters part.

First off, are you sure it's the fog light relay ground wire? Is the rest of the LG/BK wire in the harness? Pin 13 on C270a is the open hole?

You can try making something for the connection. When I did high idle on my X I had to make a similar connection in one of the PCM connectors. A trimmed/soldered up spade connector has done the job for over 2 years now.

You could also go to a good auto parts store and look at a weatherpak kit. You may be able to find a similar sized piece that would work.

Lastly, would be to ask a tech at a local dealer if they have any old harness' they are going to toss. You only need the end and a small pigtail to ground the relay.

William_04_X, yes the LG/BK is still in the harness, but the connector side which is the side which needs to be grounded for the fog light mod is missing. Can the other connector from the harness be grounded and the lights work?

I will attempt to talk to a tech and see what I can find.

Don't ground the LG/BK that is going up in the harness. If you do, you'll start blowing headlight fuses. You need to find/make something to go into the connector and make contact with the pin out of the CJB. The CJB pin(C270a #13) is the foglight relay ground, so it is a very low current circuit.

The LG/BK going up in the harness needs to be safed off, as it will have a +12V potential when your high beams are on.

Just to make sure I'm understanding what was done, the LG/BK wire has been cut, and the rest of the LG/BK pigtail, and it's female metal contact, are missing from inside connector C270a #13.

If you can make a connection with that pin on the back of the CJB, and ground it, your foglights will work again. You can easily test this with a short jumper if you are sure that you have the right circuit identified.

FWIW: the ignition has to be in the "RUN" position for the foglights to work. They don't work in "ACCY" or "OFF".

Also, here is a link to the "Steve Racer Mod" which has pictures and may help to clarify things a little.

FWIW: I just put HID's in my fogs myself, and this mod is a necessity so the fogs don't shut off when I flash to pass, or have high beams on. Short cycling the HID's is hard on the lamps and ballasts.
