Is it possible to remove the running boards from an 04 Expedition?

The brackets are just bolted on. Remove the bolts and unplug the running board lights and you should be good to go.

I did this to my 04. you will see a lot more exposed frame too.

yes its lifted with the truxxx 3/2 spacer lift on 315 70 17 BFG A/T's. The rear tire is the stock 265 70 17.

Just curious as to why anyone would want to remove the running boards?

well in my case, they didnt fit after my lift with 35's. I had to trim them back to make it work since it would rub at full steering lock. I decided to remove them in favor of 3" nerf bars after the drivers side board was broken when I hit something in the road. Its just plastic attached to a metal plate and not very strong.
