Overall Reliability
What are common problems for 98 Explorers with the 4.0L engine? About to buy one with 88k on the odometer. wondering what i should be expecting to replace in the near future or what to replace right away before it becomes a bigger problem. Any help is much appreciated!

Mine runs a 4.0L V6 and it just turned over 130,000 today. I haven't had any major repairs to the driveline at all yet. I just keep the maintenance up (oil, fluids, filters, etc.) and things seem to be fine. I did have a little electrical bug with the starter but it's all under control.

i bought a 98 at 120k 4.0 motor. the timing chain made noise which i didnt knew what it was back then the only peoblem i had was the pinion seal blew around 128k miles and i replaced it on the rear diff. overall good truck.
