Not sure that I'd waste the VC-9 cleaning the inside of the intake manifold. Try something simple like WD-40 that will actually dissolve that crud, fairly cheap, and easy to remove with simple green afterwards.

FWIW--WD-40 makes a great first level hand cleaner for the heavy deposits working on a diesel can leave then simple hand soap cleans up the WD-40 without having to abuse the skin on your hands. Helps with the arthritis too.

VC-9 will not clean the mostly oil (vs. mineral) deposits in the intake.

Try carb cleaner.

simple green is the way to go. vc9 will not remove that stuff. vc9 is to remove rust and scale only.

Don't mess with carb cleaner or brake cleaner. You'll go through more cans of that then anything. I went through three cans of brake cleaner and didn't even make a dent in it.

Next time I do it (hopefully never) I think I will get it hot tanked. I used a bottle brush, pressure washer, purple power, simple green and it none of it seemed to work real good, especially down where you can't reach.

You do that and you will be looking for a new one.

NEVER AND I DO SAY NEVER HOT TANK ALUMINUM.

The acid will eat the aluminum. Some of the better cleaners will also
resolve aluminum. Anything with Sodium Hydroxide in it will also.
You end up with a lot of heat and Hydrogen and some crud in the
bottom of the tank. Not pretty.

Something like simple green and let it soak then the pressure washer and brushes
will give you the best job for DIY. If you want to take it in to a shop they can put in
in a solvent type bath. But never any type of acid.

And to the guys that keep saying Hot Tank. QUIT that before someone does
and they are sorry. The term you want is Solvent Tank. There also some very
agressive solvents that also eat aluminum that don't have any acid in them.

Thank you for the heads up... I sprayed it down with purple degreaser and blasted it with water... I think I'll let it dry out for a few days then blast it with some air to remove any smaller dislodged debre.

I'm still waiting on parts in mail so no rush.
