Ok I'm usually on the 73-79 forum, but I'm getting an 03 with a 5.4 with 300,000 highways miles. Oils been changed every 3,000 miles. This was a company truck. So my question is, are 5.4 motors built to last this long?
I almost had that many miles on my 99 4.6 before the accident. I've heard reports of some high miles on these trucks. The thing is though is how was the rest of the truck maintained. Was it preventive or wait till it breaks maintenance. The way I look at it is this. Say I buy a new truck and my payments are about $500 /month. At that rate I could afford to put a new engine and trans in my truck every year and still have money left over at the end of the year, and luckily that's not the case with these trucks. Check the tie rods, ball joints on the truck. What's the price, post some pics
My 1997 4.6 4X4 F-150 has 254,000 ACTUAL miles and very regular, religious, maintenance if it was maintained well on all fronts than it would last i have seen some F-150's on Auto trader with over 300,000 miles and running strong
Don't be surprised, most modern engines can run 400,000 miles are more. Most don't make that far though because somewhere along the way people run them out of oil, let them overheat, or something breaks and people decide not to fix the truck but the engine is still good.
