New here, soon to be getting an Excursion V-10 4x4 because my Windstar isn't cutting it anymore.
Wondered what year your V-10 is, how many miles on it, mpg, mods, and any problems you've had.
Thanks and can't wait!
Haven't had success with search options.
This discussion always reminds me of the story about a guy who walks up to the owner of a big yacht and asks how much it cost. The answer is "if you have to ask....you can't afford it."
The same applies here.
01 v10 4x4 w/4.30. 12 is the best I ever got. it kind of hovers around 11, but I got as low as 8 going over the rockies with a trailer.

Ditto....my '03 gets the same as his even though I have 3:73's.
2000 4x4 with 3.73's. I can get 15 on the freeway with just people in it. Around town with mixed driving I get about 10. Towing a 9-10000lb trailer I get 7-8.

Huh, don't recall asking how much you spent. I will be getting one soon, just wondered what is the norm.
Thanks for the story though, I wish I would have heard it before that guy asked me about my yacht.

You're digging too deep. I know how much gas costs, not much of a concern. What I want to know, again, is what you've done to your Excursions with a V-10. From what I've read, it is quite reliable, so I am just curious about how many miles, mpg, mods and problems.
I have a 03 Excursion V-10. I bought mine for what it is 22 months ago when gas was 5.01 a gallon. I did not buy it for gas mileage. Had I wanted gas mileage I would have bought a Lincoln Mark VIII that gets around 24 MPG highway.
Guesing I would say between 9.5 and 15MPG depending on the mood I'm in and how I drive it.
Honestly if you have a concern for gas mileage then depending on your age an Excursion could cause you to have headachs, upset stomach, an itching feeling all over, fatigue, insomina, shortness of breath, a burning feeling in your chest, numbness in the lower extremities, iching eyes and nose, popping in your ears, soreness in your joints, loss of memory and even a divorce or heart attack. And this is just some of the symptions. So the bottom line is Excursions are not for everybody unless you are willing to go where you have never gone before in a truck.
I don't think anyone here is trying to be nasty..... but I agree. If you're at all worried about the mpg a 3/4 ton truck gets, you should not be buying a 3/4 ton truck. That was where the yacht comment came from I think.
But, I'll bite. 2000 V10 2WD, bought in February this year with around 120k miles on it. Replaced shocks (Bilstein) and front sway bar bushings and end links when I bought it, and changed out the original sparkplugs in addition to the normal maintenance, fluids etc. Was slightly worried about milky white on the underside of the oil filler, but changed the *****ty oil out for Mobil 1 and it went away, just some condensation.
Average around 13.5 mpg half highway, half town and country roads, full or empty of people. Have not towed with it yet, still waiting for that enclosed car hauler.
I am purchasing a 2000X V10 4x4 tomorrow. I am flying to Green Bay WI to it pick up and drive it back to Colorado. I will be keeping very detailed records via my GPS on distance, average speed, max speed, stopped time, etc. Will report my mileage on Thursday afternoon.
But as everyone here has already pointed out, I didn't buy it because of its mpg performance. Nor do I plan to utilize it as a daily driver.
For $5,000 cash (Cha-Ching!) I purchased my 2000 V10 4x4 a few months ago. It had 163,000 miles on it. It had a K&N filter in it along with a Gibson dual exhaust. The illumination on the dash was out. The door locks didn't work. The power mirrors didn't work.
I upgraded the mirrors to power w/ turn signals, fixed the dash illumination, changed all of the fluids, fixed the door locks, installed a Ranch Hand front bumper replacement, removed the brown cladding and changed the brown step boards to black.
hi all
i traded in my 4.0 jag xj8 and 4.0 grand jeep cherokee
for my 5.4 excursion and convinced my wife it will be cheeper to run than two 4.0 cars as its 2.6 litres smaller
my answer to people who say why buy a big car that uses so much fuel is simply beacuse i can
Bought my 01 on May 28th. It has 86,000 miles on it. I bought it to pull my travel trailer with. The dang trailer weighs in around 8300 dry and 10,000 wet. It pulled it great. So far I average 10.1 with it. Traded in a 1993 Blazer with 83,000. Which it could not pull the trailer and it only got 12. So far I like the V10. Would like to add some extras down the road. Paid $10,900 for it. Never been wrecked and the only issue that I have seen is the shocks on the back hatch are no good. I need to replace them.
