Lookin for help buying my 1st diesel

OK guys here it is i don't know what to do i really like the way the 6.0 runs however i will say it is not as powerful as i was hoping but the trucks i have tested have been stock. buti also want the more reliable 7.3 with a 6speed. i do want a truck for towing. however liek any other person i want a truck when me n all my buddies go out and run around town i don't want the lazy truck. i have never drove a chipped ford diesel. i don't know how big of a difference it make but i hae drove a 7.3 alot and they just don't seem like they have a ton of power. i will say the 6.0 seems much more powerful.

So what i'm askin if you were in the market for a diesel 07 and older. would you be looking a 6.0 or a 7.3? i'm not lookin to start a fight about these engine i just want serious help i'm in the market and want a good opinion.

Thanks

First, if you don't really need a diesel, don't.

5.4s and V10s does the job occasionally for a fraction of the cost.

Let's see if I can do this without favoritism...

7.3L = trucks are older, hard to find low miles now, less powerful, can be safely custom tuned for near 6.0 performance, none available with warranty.

6.0L = newer truck, lots available, harder to find a manual tranny, more powerful, tuning can improve performance but not as safely, several weak design points will need repair eventually, later models still covered under engine warranty.

Having fast vehicle is lot of fun.
But when you are planning to drive, or haul 1000 miles from home -it is the reliability that counts.
On my last trip I drove on Idaho highway where for 5 hr I had no cellphone coverage and villages were 68 miles apart. Even flat tire on road like that can ruin your day.

I would stick to an '06 or '07 for the reasons stated above.

"Need" can be a tricky thing to nail down. "Want" is a much easier thing to work with.

That's pretty funny actually, that a guy would feel so inadequate that he needs to act out like that.

Maybe the site needs a filter for new member names. If your username includes mopar in any form, you are automatically declined.

I didn't do it, but looked at what happened - funny to say the least. Steve was right - "some people's kids" (if we can believe that)

I would welcome an honest, fair, scientific, well documented debate between the merits of Powerstroke vs. Cummins (same year, vintage, etc.). Ditto for the GM Duramaxes.

That means, let them have their best champion, with their best facts, come talk here.

Let the facts speak for themselves.

well i will take a an auto in the 05-07 i don't want any 03-04 6.0 because they seemed to be the big problem child's. but i have talked to mechanics that say the 5 speeds are great tranny's i don't think i'll be towing long distances but as far as a chip or anything i would only chip the 6.0 after puttin a EGR delete or bypass on it. and i would not get a large chip but maybe like a SCT with a tow economy n a street tune.

But basicly what i'm asking is if i were to find a nice 6.0 with some higher miles, do you think it would be a safe purchase and would you buy a 6.0 over a 7.3 ?

And as far as gas motors, i'm just not into the triton motors i just feel that ford could have did a little more R&D on them.
