my ford eats dodges for lunch

yup, the title says it all. only not in a good way...lol

had a trailer about 10k hooked up was on a busy street not going very fast, moved over into the right hand turn lane. the light turned yellow and the car in front of a dodge caravan stopped the dodge caravan stopped and i just did not have enough room to stop. i layed on the horn as i locked up the breaks. hoping they would move forward even just a few feet. for a brief glimmer of a second i thought i was going to stop in time before the crunching sound. basically my bumper went right over the top of there bumper and into the rear door. It pushed the center of the rear door in about 10 inches and the rear glass came out and landed allover my hood. no other damage to the caravan other than the rear door and glass that i could see, tweaked my bumper a bit and the glass chipped and scratched the top of my hood up pretty good.

the bad thing is the lady that i hit was sounding like she was setting up a law suit. first thing after the accident i got out of my truck and walked up to her car, she rolled down the window and i appoligised and asked if she was ok. her response was "im not moving till the cops get here", "ok" i responded as i called the cops. then when the cops got there and asked if she was ok she said "i feel fine but you never know what the next 24 hours will bring, i did jar my neak a little bit" in sorta a shady tone of voice. the bad thing is i know there is no way she could have been injured i couldn't have been doing more than 3-4 mph when i hit her. if i had another 2-3 feet i would have been able to stop. i had a drink sitting on my center console that didn't even spill.

the only plus side is that i carry full coverage insurance on my truck, so minus the deductible nothing should come out of pocket. and my truck will be good as new again.

I got a few choice words about that lady that I can't post on here without being kicked off. I love it how people can pay absolutely no mind to what's happening around them, and they mat their break pedal like a rig towing a trailer can stop on a dime. Of course you're going to get plowed, you retard!!! Where you live at dude, I got a nice steel bumper that she can have for breakfast at about 85mph. Oh and BTW, she drives a caravan, you probably did her a favor caving in the rear end of that ugly piece of crap. Best of luck to ya friend, I hope the cops do right by you and recreate the accident to prove that you were only doing about 5 mph so she can't claim crap medically.

Bad news, fellas: If you rear end someone, 99% of the time it is deemed your fault for not allowing sufficient stopping distance. The exception that I am aware of is if witnesses prove the driver in front was intentionally driving recklessly or in a manner that they intended for you to hit them. I am not LEO or a lawyer, though.
I just know that when I am pulling the camper, I leave a boatload of room in front of me because I know my stopping distance is greatly increased.
It most certainly is not the duty of an operator to judge the stopping ability of the vehicle behind them when they are faced with a sudden stop situation. Their duty is to avoid hitting the car in front and trust that the person behind is operating in a manner that will permit them to stop in time.
I am sorry about your accident, but she has a right to be a little p-o'ed. She doesn't have the right to fake an injury, though.

Faking injuries are the name of the game where I'm from.
All the folk up there dont wanna work.
They will actually take their beater car and try and hit you in intersections so they can sue you.

the accident was deemed my fault, although there wasn't much i could do about it, im not going to argue it. if someone was to be blamed for the accident more of the blame rest on me. although the other driver could have avoided it. im just waiting for the phone call saying all the injury's she is claiming, that is my biggest fear about the whole thing. everything else pretty much falls into the "**** happens" category.

I'm a paramedic for a large 911 organization. That happens a lot. Probably 75% of the rollover accidents we work where a seatbelt is worn the people don't even go to the hospital. There are two types of folks that do what she did to you: The one's that don't understand what the human body can undertake and really truly believe she could have injury from that bump. And then there are the ones that when asked what is wrong with them, we say, "Her check hurts" because she is after your hard earned money because she wants an easy checkbook boost.

i leave a good two car lengths between me and the car in front of me. but theres always that guy driving a kia that swoops in in front of me coming up on that red light. most people just dont get what it takes to stop a truck and trailer with a 13000 cat on it. one day that guy in the little kia is gunna find out how much room i need to stop and how far a kia will fly out into a ditch!

yea, Keep your vehicle under control at all times does not allow for STUPIDITY of other drivers.

To follow safe makes people think there is free room to move in.

Yeah it doesn't matter how much room we leave for safety. There's always that little car and swoops in front of us at the signal to gain 8 feet and still take off slower then the car in front of them. Sorry about your luck, this happened to my wife in my F150, hardly hurt the Saturn she hit, guy gets out and jumps around yelling a bunch of BS, even refused medical treatment and drove home. Two days later we find out he is trying to claim neck injuries. Just another person trying to reach into someone's pocket book so they can take a vacation.

Sorry to hear that man. Been there done that got it all out of my system at a young age. I watch closely, but people think are big trucks can stop on a dime, like ther little civic and kia's and saturns.
