2009 f250 Hub Problems?
I have been hearing whine sound from the front of the truck. It seemed speed sensitive.
Tonight a friend noticed the front axles were spinning in different directions. To correct the problem I selected 4 High. Moved forward, then backward. Then selected 2 wd. The axles rotated in the same direction.
Is this symptomatic of a hub going bad?
I also noticed my Diesel mileage has been about 12 to 13 on the high way, going about 80 MPH. On the way home, it started climbint to 14 mpg.
Also, there are two rubber rings between the axle housing and the Axle u-joints. These rings are just hanging on teh axles? are they dist seals? or the axle seals?
To check your hubs, park your truck in 2H. Go to each front tire and reach around behind it. Grab the U-joint and try to spin it. It should spin with some resistance, but not a lot. It should feel smooth as you spin it, not rough or grinding.
Now, repeat with 4H engaged. You should not be able to spin the U-joints.
