My intake on a 360 2v makes a sucking noise coming outta
the carb area( vacuum leak) I replaced vacuum hoses, torqued the
intake down, I'm replacing carb gaskets tommorow. If
that doesn't work can the carb it's self leak? the thing revs
like a SOB, hits 5500rpm as fast as my moms toyota 1.6L 4 banger. It has a rough time idling when could, but once warm
it has this layed back lope.
Is it possible it is just the air being sucked into the carb throat??? Our shop truck makes a hell of a noise and that is what appears to be causing it.
Dory,
It could be the carb itself. I stumbled across a used Edelbrock 600 this past summer and decided to plop it on my 360 (for some reason I thought the electric choke would be handy). The carb whistled. Loud. I was checking belts, looking for a vacum leak, etc. Finally yanked the carb and reinstalled my old E'brock 500. Whistling went away. Just one of those n=1 experiences that might help.

Maybe that your throttle shaft bushings are worn on your carb. Take a can of either or starting fluid and spray around all the intake and carb areas . If you have a leak somewhere your engine should rev up as the starting fluid is sucked into the engine. Just my 2 $ Good luck.
I had this same problem with my 600 and I know this sounds dumb, but are your vacum plugs screwed in all the way? I know I had this on my truck and there was a plug in the back I didn't see and didn't even know was there and i put a plug in and it went away
