FreeWheeling Tranny
Pulled a 6000 lb load home today, first trip with new john wood valve body from Riff Raff. Worked fine empty, but when loaded with OD off, tranny would freewheel on down hills. When I got back into throttle, tranny would re-engage and go. A few times the torque converter would'nt lock-up and you could feel it going back and forth, I would have to back out and lean back into it, to get it to lock. I'm thinking t/c is sick. Any idea's? Thanks

I doubt that it is the torque converter. If it was the converter it would also have problems driving, not just coasting.
Your symptoms are those of a coast clutch not applying. Do you have engine braking with the shifter in 2 or 1?

I had that problem.
Had a bit of engine braking in M1 and M2, but none in 3rd as you were describing.
It turned out that the check ball for the coast clutch disintegrated.
Mine was an easy fix. Good luck.
