short rant-

2006 F350 6.0 4x4, crew cab, 91K miles, muffler delete, SCT tuner, glowshift gauges,

i just cant get a break at the moment. 2 weeks ago, transmission started leaking. i was lucky it was an easy fix, tighted the pan bolts, no more leak. at the same time i had it in the shop for the high pressure oil problem / leak bad starting problems

then i got the oil problem fixed, few days later my car ( 2005 Impala ) craps out a coil, so i was lucky that too was an easy fix. did that myself for $26 bucks.

but i took a trip up north- did some coyote hunting with no success, and the mosquitoes and wood ticks gang banged me like a cheap ***** and treated me like an all you can eat buffet.

1/2 way home from up north, i stopped at Cabelas, and noticed i have a NEW leak. diagnosed in the parking lot- heater core leaking. again, im lucky its an easy fix, but i dont know if my extended warranty will cover it. im sure i will be paying out of pocket one way or another. i think i have a $200 -250 deductible with the extended warranty.

i wont even get into my other problems / stresses for the weekend...

but i will say that my MPG is up with the new tuner which is a bonus... i got 18.62 MPG in the truck, 95% of it highway miles between 60-70 MPH, thats up from 16.0-16.5MPG.

anyways, back to the shop for the heater core. i wouldnt complain if it ALL hasnt been a constant problem, one day after the next.

i do gotta admit, my Fords have never actually left me stranded no matter what the problem was. even when i had an '03, i still towed a 8,000 pound speed boat 20+ miles to the shop... while i had a blown turbo, on 35" tires

Sorry you are having problems.

What coolant are you using?
How often do you flush the system?
Do you have a coolant filter?

i just flushed the system a few weeks ago. there was no sand or debris in it. no coolant filter. ( yet ) and i made a mistake a few weeks ago, i wasnt thinking and put 50/50 green in the system, i obviously wasnt in a hurry to flush it out again just to put in the gold. "cheezit" says you can run the green and so did one of my buddies who is a diesel tech at ford.

I will disagree about running the green coolant. I ran it in my truck for a while and it caused corrosion in the system. The ford's just don't like it as well as the gold. Do NOT take that chance.

Totally agree - and certainly don't mix them!

What I recall him saying was you can run it if you put in the proper additives and check the properties of the coolant to be sure they are in line with spec.

Not worth the hassle, IMO.

Stop at NAPA and get some coolant nitrite test strips and check your green coolant. I will bet the test will show you need to add additives to get the proper nitrite level. I use the green coolant in my 1989 diesel and have add for recommended nitrite levels.

ok guys, just how tough should it be to replace my heater core on my 2006 F350 / 6.0 diesel ?

i was planning on tackling it myself, but then i took a second look- that looks like AIR CONDITIONER lines going into it too ??????????

i wont want to mess with the A/C plumbing....

the leak was bubbling out of there pretty good, where that silver hose goes into it. kind of in between the electrical connector and the LEFT metal hose
