Rear end ID

I'm not sure what this rear end is, I think it's a dana 35 but not sure, any info would help. Just want to make sure it's worth pulling out. It's in a 1969 Ford Galaxie with a 302 and I think C4 tranny.

Don't remember the model name, but a buddy back in school had a 67 galaxie with 298/3 on the tree, and killed 3 of these, before he swapped in a 9".
Seems like the salvage yard guy called it a "spicer type"......

I had looked up spicer before, but this does not look like any of the ones they had pictured, I could be wrong. The fill plug is on the drivers side next to the driveshaft, not on the cover if that helps. It also looked similar to a 7.5" rear but it is much bigger then that. Guy told me it had a 9" in it, after hacking the back end off it definitely was not. If I can't get $75 for it it will go with the rest of my scrap metal. Trailers not full of scrap metal until the bumpers draggin'.

That's an 8.7" Ford WER axle. My '73 Galaxie has the same rear end. These were common in late 60's / early 70's full size sedans.

fmc400, thanks. Kinda seems like a big rear end for a 302. Are there any stampings on the rear end to tell which ratio gears it has? The cover id tag has rusted off. The guy told me it has 3.00:1 but he also told me it was a 9 inch.

Axle decoder ring says 8 1/2 or 8 3/4 inch ring gear, 28 spline axles, none listed with limited slip, ratios 2.47, 2.75, 2.80, 3.07, 3.10 & 3.25.

'67 to '78, Ford, Mercury, last used in the Grandad and Moan-arc.

Must have been ok, as there are no "stories" or urban legends about how these were all awful and had to be replaced.

Good pics--where did you find that car, in the tide flats somewhere?

Hmm, 8.7". I had one of those under a 77 monarch. The factory 302 had been replaced with a 69 351W. The way the former wife it, it has to be a rather stout rearend.
If memory serves me correctly, they actually share *some* parts with the newer 8.8" rears.

I've seen 2.47:1 on the web before, looks like there were others.

upon further investigation it seems to be the formentioned 8.5 inch rear end and 3.07 ratio. It seems not many parts are available for this and does not seem to be much in demand, guess it's going in for scrap as I will have a hard time selling it. Thanks again for the info guys, always useful.
