I bought a 1997 F350 P/S last December. The PO told me it had a chip or a program in it. He never gave me the module, and I am tired of asking him for it. I want to put in a different system. Is this possible to do with another program already in? Not to start a war, but is there any recommendations on what brand do the best with the powerstrokes? I would like something with a screen. Not neccessary, but would be nice.
Any thoughts on dealing with the current program??
From what ive read, i wouldnt stack programmers on our trucks. The best thing to do it keep calling the PO of your truck until he gives you the hand held to download it out of your truck. But when the time comes, the superchip is a generic chip but not too bad for the money. You can pick one up used for around 200$ and they hold their value.
The dealer can reflash it out costs between $50 and $150 depending on your dealer. Thats what has to happen alot, with people who use Edge stuff on these trucks. sometimes a reflash from the dealer is the only way to get the program completely out and to a stock setting. The screens really dont do much more than allow you to clear codes, or like the Edge cs give you a numerical guage display or pictures of analog gauge for a big price tag on a small screen. If you want a programmer rather than a chip, and want a screen, look at PHP's site, Bill reprograms Edge stuff with good programming and tunes that are reliable.
i have a superchips its not bad, leaves some to be desired but works great as a scan tool as well, i dont regret my purchase but do plan on going to a chip in the future
I was checking out the Superchips stuff. Not too bad. I don't have to have a screen, just thinking out loud I guess. When you guys refer to the "chip" your refering to just plugging in the module to set it, then unplug it, right? Its not actually replacing a chip? So is Superchips the general concensus on a good all-around setup?
no
your actually plugging in a chip and leaving it.
Modules will mess up the PCMs on our trucks. Thats why people dont like EGDE and bully dogs and other tuners around here. They modify the PCM, which leads to problems later down the road.
The super chip is okay, but its more of a scam thing. Lots of EGT problems with it.

If you get the Superchip 1705 when you hook it up it will tak the current program and store it as you stock tune and load (flash) a new program into it it will not stack it.

Good point..I forgot that it deletes the current program and saves it.
It looks as if the 1705 is an older model. I read something about haing to send it back if you do any upgrades to get it reprogrammed? Is it really that worthy, or would something newer be better? Also if I got a setup from PHP, for example, that is just a chip, right? I'd have to physically install this chip, vs the 1705 which just plugs in?
correct the chip will also be better for performance and you can change your settings on the go with te SC you would have to stop and take 5 min to change the tune plus when you put gauges then it would be like having the screen to monitor the ENG.
