I've been gone for a while and....I'm leaking..
First and foremost, I can't believe how long it has been since I've posted on our forum...between the ol' military running me all across the country training leaving my beloved FX4 behind, and my first child being born on Memorial Day ....its been quite a challenge.
Now on to business...
I came back to find that my rear diff is leaking at the link point of the drive shaft. It only leaks when it is cold...Bad Seal?? Is it hard to replace?? Is it something I can do myself if my Father-in-Law is a SnapOn rep???(endless tools)
Secondly my damn fuel door doesn't stay shut any more.. What I can tell when I look from under the truck is that a "metal retainer" or what looks like one is not connected to the plastic "fuel housing." Is that a quick remedy or do I have to replace the whole housing??
Thanks for all of your help and its GREAT TO BE BACK....Well at least while I'm on "paternal leave"

that would be your pinion seal. where the driveshaft bolts to the axle right?
I honestly suggest you let a shop repair it. axle work is one of those things that only a true expert should mess with. use it as a chance to get some 4.56 gears for your 35" tires.
congrats on the kiddo. my boy was born on May 7th and we had forgotten what it was like to have a newborn again. they're fun

You think so huh? Yeah its where the drive shaft meets the rear end... What do you think is the hardest part? I have some leave time to take care of the problem, is it one of those things that its just having the 'eye' for? I remember putting one in an 85' Bronco in shop class back in high school.....but then again it was over 8yrs ago....
As for the tires, as soon as they wear down (no time soon, got 65k out of the last set) I'm going back down to 34's...Or we'll see how my son and gas prices affect my pocket...
As for infants..fun until those few hours of sleep a night constantly start to catch up....just thanking God he's not colic...
