"InForduation"

I know most folks really enjoy seeing the complete vehicle, but I truly can get enjoyment out of seeing and handling just one piece off these old trucks. (There are those in my household who at times think I may have some issues but I am toerated just the same.)

I am plugging along on my 60. Yesterday I was cleaning up the front end parts for painting. I was just struck by the beauty of the steering arm and the work that must have gone into making it. It looks like it was cast or forged and machined. I don't really know how they made it but it sure is cool! Anyone have any info on how they made this stuff?

Steering components are generally forged steel, but can be malleable iron.

I agree with you, some pieces are just wonders of machine work. This is one of my favorites. Imagine how many steps are needed to make it, with close tolerances, many chances to mess up. Think how hard it would be to reproduce from scratch! And yet they were spitting them out in huge numbers back in the day...
