What year 460?

Bought a 61 f100 with a 460/C6 combo in it and no way of contacting the guy who put it in
I know nothing about the big blocks and have a headgasket/intake gasket leak, so was wondering how to identify it since I have the heads off.
the heads are D3VE-A2A inside casting numbers are 2G13 .19 on one and.20 on the other. all other casting marks are the same...
If anyone can tell me what else to look for I would appreciate the help.

Although not a gear head, I feel comfortable working with my y blocks,is there a thread I could look up that covers the installation of Headgaskets/valley intake gaskets on these motors?

and no I dont have one

The 460's ran those heads from 73 to when they when to fuel injection I believe. What is the casting number on your block? It is right behind the starter on the block. It might give more info.

If your crank spacer on the front of the crank has a "hatchet weight" on it its a 79-85 460
If not its 73-78
thats IF the heads have not been changed.

just woke my bleary eyes up thanks for the replies

crawled under the block and did a scrap paper immpresion of the casting mark above and behind starter, it appears to be
DIVE-6015-A
the damper appears to be round I am clueless about the hatchet spacer
,
when dealing with my y-blocks there are places I can go that let me know the pit falls of building that particular type of motors, i.e. head gasket orientation, correct bolt placement. Is there a source for the 460?

I do not know that the p.o's. knew what they were doing and if they built the motor like they wired the truck, and replaced brake lines, I just as soon do it the way it is supposed to be done.
The heads and manifolds are off cleaned and repainted,I have all my gaskets and hope I have the correct torque specs, and itching to put it together today

thanks for all the help guys
john

Your motor is probably a 73-78 going by the block and heads. Some one on here might be able to tell if its a car block and when it was cast by the numbers. In 79 they went with a block number starting with D9 that is externally balanced. That is why the front crank spacer is different. The older ones were internally balanced. So you don't want to mix parts, crankshaft, flywheel, etc. I have a book by Tom Monroe, How to rebuild your 351C-351M-400-429-460. While not all info is perfect so I have been told, it is a nice book to check out. Not sure of where to look online. There is some really good guys on this site. Also there is another website 460.com I think thats it too. They might have some good info.

Dirt racer thanks for all your help.
More than any thing else I was looking to narrow down the heart of the beast. It is hard having all the manuals on my truck but not the motor, makes one feel like a dummy. As you can imagine there is a small difference between a 292 y, and a big block 460. and since it is in pieces I want to put it back together correctly.
I already spent time and money repairing the intake valley gaskets due to a vacuum leak, and some sketchy advise, just to find myself redoing it because it also had a bad head gasket that was overlooked...If you want it done right, do it yourself only works if you have all the knowledge to do it right .
once again thanks for the help
