I'm new here and just recently got a 2001 Excursion 7.3 Diesel. I've pulled my trailer with it twice and have been having truouble with the lights and thought replacing the connector truck side might help. Soooo, I took the 4 screws out and can't for the life of me figure out how to get the plug out. It looks like it should pull apart if you press a piece of plastic that looks like it locks it but it doesn't. I also doesn't look like the wires are on pins that pull out. It is the original plug. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated as I need to be able to pull my trailer later in the week.

Thank you.
Not sure what your original problem with the lights was -- but I had a problem with the parking lights not working on my trailer when I first got the Ex and it was a relay under the hood. Changed it out with the power windshield washer relay next to it and all the lights worked fine --
It started with the break controller and then was the right turn signal then the running lights. The pins in the plug are visably worn which is why I thought I should replace the plug. Thank you for the suggestion though..

I believe the only place to get that whole assembly is from FORD and it's like $150. I asked on here if i could replace just the flat 4 part and was told it was all one piece and to just get a 7 to 4 adapter instead. Let us know what you figure out.
this one doesn't have the flat four part just the round part that you can plug the trailer into or the round adapter to go to four prong. I can cut the wires but it seems like it should come aprat a either be able to unscrew each wire or pull each wire loose. I swear it's like a chinese puzzle!
yes it will separate at the plug. However on the drivers frame rail behind the spare is the harness plug to unplug the 7 way. This is were I had a corrosion issue with mine. I hard wired an aftermarket 7/4 way for $50.
