Brake Pad Replacement....Need Input.

Tried the search function and did not see anything i was looking for, maybe i missed something.....anyway, I am looking for input as to what are recommended replacement brake pads and even rotors for 05 ford f-150 FX4. The backs are starting to squeal a little. I've seen people mention akebono, ebc and hawk. I plan on buying a TT this fall so i will be towing an extra 6000lbs. Just want to get opinions and see what everyone is using. Thanks for any replies.

I just went with the OEM replacements from Advance. Why do you think the rotors need replacing?
For a trailor of that weight (weighs as much as the truck) will the trailor have it's own brake system? I would be more inclined to worry about that, than hoping for the truck brakes to do all the work all the time.

'06 SCAB 4x4 5.4 - I just replaced original rotor & pads at 37K. After my research, I went with Powerslot disks and Green Stuff pads. The new parts only have a few hundred miles on them and aren't really bedded in yet, but they feel much better than what I had. The OEM disks were still in good shape, but the pads were shot.

60DRB makes an excellent point on trailer brakes. I believe anything over 4K Lbs requires trailer brakes anyway.

I have to second Rooster...I've been running Green Stuff pads for over 100k (a few changes) on whatever Oriely's Premium disc is... I tow my 10ft Waverunner around with about 4 125cc dirt bikes in the box quite a bit. It may be just me but I see the major difference when I'm towing through the sand with great brake response.

Not to mention after you get the break-in dust out of the way they are pretty good on your rims if you're a hard-core detailing enthusiast like me...

I can feel a lip on the edge of the rotor. I haven't taken them off yet (can feel through the rim), but I first plan on seeing if they can be turned.
As for the trailor, it does have its own braking system. I was just wanting to see what pads i could put on that may provide a little better performance in braking.
Thanks

Akebono pads are good quality pads and don't give off the dust that OEM pads do. I always turn or replace rotors every pad change because I have never been able to go the life of a second set of pads without having to service the rotors. So to avoid doing a job twice, I just do it right and complete the first time. That includes new hardware as well. I've also heard good about Hawk pads. I really don't think power slotted rotors are necessary, but to each his own.

Forgot to mention...if I remember my Ford Shop Manual correctly (in a storage unit in a different city....I'd check it if it was here)....You have to also do a brake line flush as well. The crappy fluid Ford puts in there goes pretty quickly...I've had good life time with the prestone synthetic fluid...

Brake system flush isn't really necessary with the DOT 3 fluid used from the factory unless the vehicle sits in storage for long periods of time. Then a flush would be required maintenance to get the moisture out of the system so that lines don't rust and stuff. The DOT 5 synthetic doesn't need this step because the synthetic fluid doesn't really let moisture accumulate like the DOT 3 fluid does. That's why I use synthetic fluid in my Mustangs. And the synthetic fluid does have a higher boiling point, so if you tow heavy there's less chance of boiling brake fluid.

Made it 75000 on my originals, then all 4 rotors were too thin to turn.
I went with Hawk LTS pads and NAPA Cryo rotors. Happy as can be with the setup. Best thing about 'em is the brake dust went away
