'53 was the last year the flat V8's were used, except in Canada where they continued until '54. Not sure what your question on Mercs is? Merc trucks used the Ford V8, not the 255 c.i. Merc car engine.

That's what I was wondering, what the Merc truck's used for motors, and IF the Ford and Merc trucks had the same engine.
Wouldn't have guessed the Merc's had Ford motors in them..
thanks

Correct, and the Canadian only 1953 Ford/Mercury parts catalog lists a different V8 for Mercury M600's than is listed for Ford F600's.
The Mercury only part numbers date back to 1948, so I assume this applies to all 1948/53 Ford/Mercury F/M6's and 600's.

Probably used the Big Flatty 337 in those models in Canada? I didn't think it was made as early as '48. I don't know what else it would be.

337's do not use 1CM and OCM part number prefixes. These are specific Merc 256 cid flathead V8 part number prefixes.
337 Flathead used in 1948/52 F/M7's, 1949/51 Lincoln's & Cosmopolitans.
Hydra-Matic was an option w/the 337 in 1950/51 Lincoln's/Cosmos.

So maybe they did use the stroker Merc engine in certain big Merc trucks. That might explain why people swear Merc trucks had Merc engines.
