My truck has been shifting weird somedays when it warms up. It seems that it will not want to shift into OD, but when it does the RPMs will jump up a little then shift. Somedays it is fine others it does that. I have not checked to see if it has any codes stored. I can check this morning. I had the speed sensor replaced about a month ago due to ABS light on/off and shfting weird.
I have read on here before about cleaning valves or replacing them. Also I was thinking if I had to clean or replace the valves why not upgrade the valve body.
That's called shift flare. The '99's had that problem. I think I remember a TSB that indicated a change to the software and a change to the valve body. Ford covered the cost when the truck was still in warranty.
Thanks Mark. Well I'm just a little out of warranty. So I guess I'll have to foot the bill. Can a trans shop do the upgrade to the software or only ford? If I went with an aftermarket valve body and installed it myself would that help more than stock?
My neighbor has a 2000 F-350, 7.3, auto and I replaced his speed sensor for him shortly after mine. He called me tonight and said his truck is now doing the same weird shifting, Also when we were comparing things, I realized that both of our trucks have been sticking in 3rd and holding in it longer than before shfting into OD. I believe his sensor came from NAPA and mine came from Federated Auto. Could it be a bad speed sensor?
