For me it started as pricing on new trucks and then it became more after learning more about the trucks. Now its more about liking the product I drive better than what else is out there and also meeting the other people driving them.
I've personally owned the following brands and driven them all at least 10,000 miles over the course of 1-2 years minimum.
Chevy
Dodge
Ford
GM
Isuzu
Kia
Mitsubishi
Toyota
I will never again buy a Mitsubishi or Toyota ever again due to issues I had. The Isuzu was a relabled Chevy...not bad vehicle. The Kia was an excellent vehicle that my family outgrew.
I don't like where Chevy/GM has gone since 1972. Haven't liked any of their vehicles except the 2006-2008 Yukon with 6.0.
Dodge makes and awesome motor, but the rest of the vehicle is CRAP. Never again.
My family has always been staunchly Blue Oval. They thought I was crazy for even considering the other brands. Wish I had listened on a few of those vehicle choices.
To date, I've owned the following Fords since I got my DL.
6 F-150s - from a 1984 model to a 2006 model
1991 Tempo
1993 Bronco
1995 Mustang
2003 Mustang
2008 Expedition
2009 Mustang
at the end of the day, I can count on 1 hand the # of times a Ford has left me sitting on the side of the road. Of my 12 Fords, 9 of them had 100,000 + miles at the time of purchase. Hell, my Bronco had 283,000 miles.
I've been treated right by Ford. The other brands can't even compare.
When it comes to buying a vehicle, I don't even really look at the competition anymore. They all pale in comparison. I have the hardest time figureing out which trim level I want.
I absolutely love my latest 2 Fords. But Ford just sold me on my next purchase with a Raptor F-150 Supercrew. So I'll be upgrading to a 3 car family sometime late next year when I pay off my Expedition...and here I was not wanting to buy another car for a few years
I have only owned Fords. I've had 3 rangers, 1 '91 mustang gt, 1 '08 escape and now on my 2nd F-150. None of these vehicles ever let me down. I was in a horrible accident in the mustang, I believe if I were in any other car I would have been seriously hurt. All I had to do was get out and shake the glass out of my clothes.
In the recent past we have owned a:
-'92 Crown Vic
-'94 Ford Explorer
-'95 Ford Explorer
-'97 Ford Explorer
-'97 F250 w/ 460
As you can see, we have had many Fords in the last ~20 years. We are diehard Ford fans.
I started off by lurking on this site just to learn more about the new body style F150's. Then I purchased my current truck, was still lurking around, and as I learned more, I slowly started participating more.
Now I am a constant user of the site, not participating as much as some, but I participate where I can all while trying to give the best advice possible.
My family has always had Ford trucks. Of the three vehicles I have owned, they have all been F-150s. My first was a '93 reg. cab short box 4x4 which I put lots of time and money into and it met an unfortunate end on black ice. The other two are in my sig. My dad has only had 2 trucks since 1980: a 1980 F-250 and a 88 F-250. Now we have a 6x6 army truck and the 1980 is delegated to field work. We have some 07 silvarados at work and I was interested in how they would compare to my 07. I was kind of nervous when i got to ride in one of them because GM people always talk such crap. Maybe they were right all along? I could not believe how much better my truck was. The difference in interior quality and ride was night and day. My truck even had a shorter wheel base. Everything just seemed cheaper. It felt like you could just snap parts of off it. Needless to say I couldnt be happier with my "new" truck.
been strictly blue oval since 1993. I had a GM Monte Carlo my first "real car" when I was 17, I'll admit that was a great car, 1977, fire engine red. Until some chick hit it when it was parked in front of my parents house and pushed it into a tree
Next I bought a 1983 Monte Carlo. Piece of crap. Next a 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix. another Piece of crap.
Graduated college, bought a new 1993 Ford F150. Drove it like I stole it for 11 years, put almost 200k miles on it, sold it in 2004 and guy I sold it to still has it.
When I met my wife she had a 1999 Saturn coupe. Biggest piece of crap I ever drove. Engine was shot at 55k miles. And I mean shot. Computer as well.
Now we have a 2004 FX4. Love it. Wife had a 2003 Escape 4x4 for 7 years loved it. Traded it in 2 months ago for another Escape, a limited model, 2010 loaded. Love it.
If it ain't broke, we ain't fixing it. Blue oval for us. No questions. Label me a redneck living in CT and driving a pickup truck, I don't care. I love my FX4.
I have had a number of cars, mostly Fords (’84 Escort, ’87 Ranger, 90 Buick GS, ’90 F150 ’75 F250, 95 Ram V10, ’97 Expedition, 99 Escort ZX2, ’04 F150 Lariat). The Buick was ok. The Dodge was a great truck until the transmission started to go and I have had a fuel injector problem on that for better than 10 years. I still own it but it has been retired to plow and farm duties until it won’t go. My wife has been driving her expedition forever and it has 212,000 miles on it. She drives it when she wants to and all winter. Mostly she drives the 99 ZX2 in the summer and it has 150,000 on it. The Expedition and ZX2 owe us nothing and they just won’t quit. I got my first F150 Lariat screw and, although it has had some problems I love it.
Now for the reasons why I am and always will be a ford guy. I hate GM for what they have done to me and the company I work for. When they came crying to the gov looking for a free handout and it was deemed in MY best interest to give it to them I felt robbed. I wasn’t asked if I wanted to help. Dodge, same thing. The company I work for nearly went under because of the 2 of them. Also, the only vehicle above that was problematic was the ’75. That was no fault of Ford just the dumb a** that I let rebuild the engine.
Last reason: I absolutely love the new mustangs. There is a GT 500 sitting in front of the dealership I drive past everyday and I can’t help but stare. It is such a mean looking car.
All in all I have had fairly good luck with my cars but the Fords have been the best for reliability. My family and I love the F150 screw that I have now and will probably drive it till it dies.
I have always been a chevy guy until I needed a new truck. I priced out all of the american brands and i found i could get more truck for my money with ford. that first week i took some ribbing from the ford guys i have picked on over years, but after that it has been awsome. I LOVE MY FORD. I dont see myself going to any other brand. they are powerfull, comfortable, strong, and stylish. and even though i cant drive across town without seeing 5 f-150s they all look slightly diferent and they all look good. I feel proud driving my 07 silver screw
Even though I'm only 29, I have been a Ford guy for pretty much my whole life. I remember when I was about 5 or 6, my dad had a 1968 F250 2wd. It had the 390 and 4 speed manual. I loved riding in that truck. It had no carpet and vinyl seats. I still remember the way the interior smelled on a warm summer day.
Next, in the summer of 1988, my dad bought a brand new 1989 F250 Extended Cab 4wd Heavy Duty. He needed a replacement for the POS 1984 Chebby Blazer we had. He had that F250 for the next 21 years. It was his daily driver, it hauled our 30ft camp trailer every summer and took the family on numerous vacations. I grew up with that truck. He finally traded it in in 2009. It had only 160k miles on her and some body damage from me trying to show off in the driveway in my 1986 Bronco II.
In 1999, my parents went in halves with me on my 1986 Bronco II. It was a good little truck despite being a base model with ZERO options. It is still at my parents house, but in disrepair (2.9Ls don't like overheating)
For the sake of time and to spare all of you from reading a novel, I will just list everything I have owned or been a part of:
1968 F250 (dads)
1989 F250 (dads)
1986 Bronco II
2001 F250 SC 7.3L long bed 4wd (dads)
1999 Mustang GT coupe
1999 Mustang Cobra vert (my favorite, why did I sell you?! )
1989 Ranger 2wd
1990 E150
2004 Mustang V6 coupe (wifeys old car)
2004 Explorer 4wd 4.6L
2006 F150 (current truck)
1995 Mustang GT coupe (current money pit)
2010 Expedition XLT 4wd (outgrew the Explorer)
So, in short, Fords have always been a part of my life. Sure, there were a few odds and ends in between but I have always belonged to a Ford family. They have been very good to us. I will be a Ford guy to the day I die!
Ford just hasnt let me down. The design, inside and out, functionality, dependability and comfort has kept me comming back. I have been happy with all my Ford trucks.
I will not by an truck/car that isnt American. While I like the looks of GM's Chevy Silverado heavy duitys and Z71 Sliverados, the ride quailty is very poor with a bad body lean and interior looks are so BLAND. Not to mention the cab is smaller inside and the tires and rims are lame, even for factory. Dodge's Ram have nice interiors, but the exterior doesnt do it for me like The F-Series does, plus all the transmission problems Dodge has combined with that coil rear end and electrical problems make it a no-go for me. A big factor is price, too. So I hope Ford doesnt get greedy and start hiking up prices because Ive been able to get fair market for any truck Ive bought from them.
Another thing is options. I love that I get to choose from all these trim levels and styles with different grilles and such. It makes it more rare that you see many indentical F-150s on the road. And these trucks really stand out and look mean.
I grew up in a GM family. I was weened on Chevy trucks but my grandfather always owned Ford trucks. While my dad's chevies were in the shop getting stupid stuff like radiators and head gaskets replaced, my grandfather's Ford trucks continued to roll well beyond 150K miles with few if any major issues.
When I brought home my first Ford truck in 1985, my dad was mortified. My trucks rolled well beyond 100K miles each while my dad's chevies were in the shop.
Ford's corporate customer service has always been more than fair with me. They have earned my loyalty through high quality built trucks and cars.
Last weekend I hauled 2 horses in our 3 horse slant bumper pull trailer about 60 miles. There is one big long hill between my home and where we were taking them. Well I set my speed and I was suprised to see that we held right on. Even when the transmission down shifted and the rpm's hit about 4300, no loss of highway speed!
My family and I take a vacation to Wyoming every year with my wife's dad and step-mom. My father-in-law has an '06 F-350 4 door lariat and he hauls horses for himself and us. This year being no exception he will be hauling 6 horses from the LP of Michigan in a rather sizable gooseneck horse trailer and we will be following him. Gas mileage is not the best as you can imagine but his truck has not let him down on these trips ever (up to 6 per year).--Knocking on wood-- WE LIKE WYOMING. That cannot be said for some of his former Chevy driving friends. One made it about half way hauling 2 horses and the Chevy died. Couple of days later he finished the trip in an F-350. Another fried made it to our destination and his Chevy gave up the ghost. His return trip was in an F-250 Diesel.
The Isuzu Rodeo I had was the best vehicle I ever owned but it no longer met my needs (and was getting long in the tooth) plus I needed something bigger so I could haul the travel trailer I'm going to get soon. I've owned one GM and two Mopar products in the past and was not impressed. I liked the Fords I had. My Daddy drove nothing but Fords from '66 to when he had to give up his Ranger because of a stroke (Mama still drove her Ford for sometime after that). I did look at Dakotas and Tacomas but they just didn't have the capacity I needed. I didn't like any of the Nissans (too much unnecessary plastic) and the Tundras were too expensive for what one was getting. I was leary of Dodge and GM/Chevy since, at the time I was looking, it was still questionable if they were going to survive. My Daddy had to trade in a perfectly good '56 Studebaker on his '66 F100 because he couldn't get parts for it and I didn't want to risk having that problem with a near new truck so I went with Ford. I may not again though because of dealer problems (had to go to the BBB to settle the big one) and the horror tales I've been reading about plug breakage due to their incredibly idiotic design, the cam phaser problems, and Ford not standing behind any of it. I will have to admit, with a camper shell, my Screw does look a lot better than a Dodge or GM/Chevy would have. The Ford has a flat roofline that flows smoothly into the shell; the others have a humped roofline that looks dorky with a shell (hey, if I'm going to spend almost three times as much for a truck as I did for my home, it dang well BETTER look nice, which is also why I didn't flinch at paying $1300 for the shell!).
