Will a tranny out of an exploder fit my truck, and if so what year(s)?
The B-4000, not the F-150. I really miss the little truck and the big one now has a busted frame so it is quite limited on its usefulness.
Shouldn't be a problem fitting. Everything I can find pretty much says 94-2001 for the
M5R1. But they should be the same even back to 1991 in the Xploders.
For sure, the Ranger Station tech section says all the V6 transmissions interchange....
I'd qualify that a little. You (Bazzman) have a 4.0 liter - stick to 4 L transmissions and you should be good (and of course replace a 2wd with a 2wd, 4wd with 4wd )
The 3 L (OK probably not a lot of those in explorers!) has a different bolt pattern and the M5OD has an integral bellhousing. The 2.9/2.8 and 4.0 share their bolt patterns, but the 2.9 trannies were reportedly lighter than the 4Ls ...)
Thanks for the feedback! I was aware that the 3.0 and 4.0 had different bolt patterns, but others might find that a heads up. I miss my bloody truck! The F-150 served its purpose, ie. it got me through last winter w/4wd. And for $150 bucks it did quite well. Too big a truck for me. I like the 8 ft. bed on it as I can haul my 15' jonboat in it, outside of that my little truck can do anything it can do, including carrying my quad, with a 5+mpg boost.
