....im thinking about buying an f250 or 350 4x4 diesel for pulling a 6-8k lb. travel trailer. would a diesel be a better engine over a gas mill?...also whats the word on the older diesels? good, bad or?... i only have about $6500 to spend, so i can't but a new truck..but i want a good strong truck i can trust...it would be nice to have a solid axel and a 6-9" lift as well...any advice...thanks..

I personally would not tow with that much lift. You'll have a hard time finding a shank for the hitch to drop enough to tow level. If you don't tow level, the handling of the trailer will stink.

I have a 97 F350 CC 4x4 Powerstroke with a 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires. It pull my 7000 lb camper without a problem. I have a 10 inch adjustable weight distribution hitch. I bought with 90k on it and have not had any problems with it.

The older 7.3 6.9l international motors were a very good motor I have a budy who put 600,000 on a 6.9 l diesel They are alsoe capable of a lot of hp with lowerd compresion and a good turbo. system.http://campaigns.ford-trucks.net/for...ons/icon14.gif
