I have what is supposed to be a 390 in a parts truck - the engine was supposedly rebuilt, and then started to knock. When I bought the truck it came off the trailer with the oil pan on the floorboard...

Is the oil pan still off? can you read the stamped # on the end of the crank? and last but not least where are you located???
