My First Post....

After seeing the "Newbie" thread I thought I would go back a revisit mt very first post here at FTE. It was in the 6.0 diesel section when the 6.0 was still relatively new.

Been Hell-Bent-For-Leather ever since....

New to Diesel But super long time Ford truck owner (5 new 1/2 tons in last 7 years). Others before that.

'04 F-250 FX4 Supercab Longbed 2,400 miles mfg date 10/03
Shadow Gray

MPG City: Approx. 13.5
MPG Hwy: 17.0

Dallas, TX

Love the truck in looks and performance at this point in time. I did expect better mileage. Anticipation was 16 + City MPG.

Thanks to all for continuous input. The FTE family will surely save me a lot of $$$ and heartache.

Only question now: It appears that my 10/03 6.0 should have been programmed with what has now become the infamous Oct flash.

Input on 10/03 builds would be great (good, bad month, etc.) and is there an anticipation of a reflash to increase MPG?

Will Preditor or Superchips significantly improve MPG along with some HP increase?

Any info apprecaited and a Big Howdy from the Lone Star State

I'm embarrassed, but here goes:

Greetings and salutations! I'm a new owner of a Ford (I've always owned Chevrolet or Dodge) and recently (June) bought a beautiful (used) 2000 Ford F250 4X4 with a powerstroke 7.3L diesel. I was fortunate in finding this 5-year old gem WITH ONLY 40000 MILES ON THE OD!!! I'd like to start by saying that I found this site, because I had problems with the engine seizing and/or shutting off at idle, and my brother went to this post and found out that the problem was PROBABLY a bad Camshaft Position Sensor. I browsed this site and took the recommendations found therein, yesterday going to the International dealer in Charlotte and buying a "blue" heavy-duty International CPS. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I followed the directions for changing a CPS on this site (simple instructions) and did the sucker myself. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM. The sensor was a bear to get to (belts and steering got in the way), but the process itself was simple, and my baby is running like a Swiss watch! No more problems with seizing and shutting off, and I'd swear the starting is more assertive and it's a bit quieter. Thanks to this site for having some gurus as members who can advise problems relevant to the Ford and/or powerstroke diesel.

So here I am. I'll keep a keen eye on this site and believe that a man's truck should look good BUT should be used like a by-God truck! I love taking it in the mud or putting a slide-on camper on the back or towing a boat. The Ford definitely fits the bill in that regard. I'll look to post some "action" (camping and fishing) pictures, and keep the information highway open! Regards

Steve

p.s. I heard a wonderful "rumor" that Ford/International is bringing back the powerstroke 7.3L diesel with a twin supercharger (700lb torque) in the near future. Anyone hear of, or can confirm this rumor?.......

I'm not too ashamed of my very first FTE post, way back in March of 2002:

We were born of innocence in our first postings here at FTE. Now look how suave and deboner we have all become. Nice, quiet, un-opinionated, assimilated members of the FTE community.

Well this is embarrassing... a search of posts made by my username will not go past 500 posts. Still, less embarrassing than actually revealing my first post I suppose.

this isn't my first, but it is the first I could find.

1978 f100:why is my alternator light on?
I was driving home tonight in my 1978 f100 when the alternator light came on and stayed on. As I was about 10 miles form home, and on a deserted highway, I just kept driving. about 5 minutes later, I noticed the head lights and dash lights weren't getting dimmer, and I made it home just fine. I opened the hood, checked for loose wires, checked if the belts were tight. everything checked out fine. I started the truck up and it started just fine. what could be causing the alternator light to come on? thanks fo the help, Ben

I found this little gem from 9/28/2000:

"I have an '81 F250 4x4 with a stock 351M, C6 and 3.54 axles. When I got it, it had 33" tires which I replaced with the stock 9.50x16.5 because acceleration was so sluggish. It's much better now, but still while towing about 3,500# of trailer it does poorly on hills. On long steep grades in second gear, rpm falls off to about 2000-2200 and will not accelerate past that.

I am considering changing to 4.10 axle ratio, but after reading a lot of posts in this forum, "like how does your 400 run" I see trucks that make a lot of power with the same axle ratio and bigger tires than I am running. So I'm wondering what gives. My engine has 140,000 mi but has good compression and runs fine otherwise so I can't justify the expense of a rebuild when new ring and pinions would be much less.

Does anyone have any other suggestions to remedy this lack of power before I regear it, or am I just expecting too much from an engine of this date and milage?"

Oh, what a rube you were!

New mustangs have headers before the car is introduced. 98 and later rangers have been around for 5 years now. What gives?

Also, why doesn't any shop around where I live not have a K&N air filter part number for my truck?

Go to any forum. Click on search this forum, then advanced search.

Fill in your username, make sure find posts by user is selected, and make sure ascending order is selected on the left (this will put the oldest ones first - those who are complaining that they only see the most recent 500 posts are forgetting to pick this option). Then in the forums list, scroll all the way up to the top and pick search all open forums.
