Engine will turn over. No spark. Changed coil pack. Not the problem. Put on rollback tow truck. Towed to shop. Mechanic started while on rollback. Thought it may be a self healer. Drove for 3 weeks. Same identical problem. Would appreciate an help on this intermittant problem. 4.0 4wd
Next time it pulls a no start tap on your CRANK POSISTION SENSOR and I bet you it fires right up. Then proceed to change the CRANK POSITION SENSOR. I know I had the same problem with mine. I checked fuel pressure, injector pulse, and spark and all three were dead on mine.
My 98 did the same thing in 2005 (except the part about starting on the back of the wrecker. My truck started in the shop). The problem ended up being a bad connection under the truck. We noticed that it would start and run, as long as no one was sitting in the seat. As soon as weight was put in the seat, the truck stalled out. There are two large wire connectors located roughly under the drivers seat. With the truck running up on the lift, as soon as I touched one of the connectors, the truck stalled out. I noticed that the bolts holding the seat made contact with one of the connectors. I put two washers under the head of the bolt to shorten it up, cleaned both of connectors and filled them with dielectric grease. Haven't had a problem since.
