Dfuser P0541 AIH Code Eliminator install

Is this the correct installation? It fits well, given the length and terminal sizes, but the rubber isolator at the bottom connection has me second guessing its usefulness as a ground. Gotta avoid those invisible codes thrown only on the second Tuesday of the week!

you made that or bought it? If you made it what did you use? I need to do the same thing since I live in CA and we now have the smoke test.

It is a length of wire with a 470 ohm 1/2 watt, or 1 watt (if available), soldered to it with ring terminals, of the proper size, attached to each end.

I can't tell from the pics where the resistor goes in the line.

I soldered it inline into the stranded wire near the AIH relay. It is covered with heatshrink to protect it and act as a strain relief for the connections. It is pulled out of the wire loom in the second picture to show this.

Same install. Actually my truck is a CA model too, but in that pic the CA glow plug box is removed. I'm in Pinole, 10 miles north of Berkeley, and I grew up in Pleasanton so I know where Mountain House is, too! If something falls off while going over the Altamont Pass I'll know where to get parts.

I bought the code eliminator from Dfuser. Good price, the engineering is done, so what the hey. I dunno if I even need this thing; IIRC for the smog test they do check for codes, but I think this P0541 is a soft code with no CEL, so maybe it would pass anyway. I just want to be prepared to pass without any hassles.

mueckster, What is the difference between a 1/2 and 1 watt resister in this application? Which one is better and why?

Maybe for "just in case". The math works out to just under 1/3 watt.

Since then I learned trucks with a GPCM (and thus all Xs) will throw the P0541 code anyway, even with the code eliminator. Eliminator/resistor works great for GPR equipped trucks, just not GPCM. P0541 does not trigger the CEL so it's a non issue at smog time. So for me the purchase and install was pointless.

And it's useful to see the P0541 (and the B whatever code for the door dinger delete) when trying out a new OBDII adapter or scanning app. Confirms the thing is working.

Live and learn.
